The Kalispel Tribe of Indians was established in 1914 by an executive order signed by President Wilson. Robert Charloe is a proud enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe. Charloe is also an award-winning photographer. Robert has been an artist all his life but only picked the camera in 1978. Since that time, Charloe has participated or shared in over 100 exhibits, from Seattle to Santa Fe, and has had solo traveling exhibits in four countries. Mr. Charloe has won numerous ribbons and awards for their presentation as fine art photography.
Among the many honors in recognition of Charloe’s images, is that of a black and white photo that was chosen to be the signature image for the 2009 WGBH/PBS series American Experience, a five part American Indian History documentary series “We Shall Remain, America Through Native Eyes.“
Charloe owns and operates Buffalo River – Fine Art Photography, and has for over 20 years. Robert earned his Associate of Fine Arts Degree in photography and museum 2D design from the Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe, New Mexico back in 1980. Started then stopped, then went back to graduate in 2004 from the University of Washington in Seattle with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts and American Indian Studies. In the fall of 2002, while attending the UW, Charloe’s name was added to the Dean’s List and was awarded a High Scholar Award. Charloe completed his educational journey in 2007 at Antioch University, Seattle, with a Master’s Degree in Education.
